PROJECT PHASES

To build a modern streetcar, or tram, system to connect downtown with LSU and points in between, the project must go through various phases of development. During 2016, the City-Parish completed Advanced Conceptual Engineering and Environmental studies for the preferred tram alternative and completed an Environmental Assessment to document the project’s potential impacts and benefits.

During the next project phase, the City-Parish will work with FTA to complete all required project development activities, develop final design plans and seek additional local and federal funding sources. If all project phases proceed as expected, tram service could begin in mid-2021.
